In The Beginning

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters....And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Hold your breath! Ok don't pass out on me. Let it out. Not only are we dependent on the air we breathe to sustain our lives from day to day but on the breath of life that gave us something more. There's something special about you and I. We've been set apart from all other living creatures in the universe. We are more than just flesh and blood. The Apostle Paul wrote, near the end of his first letter to the Thessalonians:

Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I believe when the Lord God breathed into man He gave us a spirit of our own. At the same time he gave us a small portion of His own spirit. Enough to function in the world he created us in. In fact, all life, all matter for that matter ;) contains a portion of the Holy spirit of God.

For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen
